Willets Point
Growing up in Queens, the area in Willets Point behind Citi Field most commonly known as the Iron Triangle always fascinated me. Its streets seem to have never really been developed but forged, trash and scrap car pieces line its landscape, hungry wandering seagulls and stray dogs are visible parts of its life cycle. People are hustling constantly to try to attract the next frustrated car owner slowly making its way inside the area looking to fix whatever ails their vehicle. The Iron Triangle seems to possess its own unique rhythm at a time when most neighborhoods in New York all seem to be in predictable in its uniformity. With the oncoming razing of this area to make way for condominiums and retail space I wanted to capture the spirit and struggle of the people and businesses of iron triangle, through a mix of landscape and portrait photography.
